Over the Passover break we took the car for a day trip up north. Our first stop was for a quick hike and a picnic in Beit Keshet. It was absolutely beautiful. Our lunch was matzo sandwiches with omelet or cheese inside. It was actually pretty good!
Then we were off to the Sea of Galilee or the Kinneret as it's called here. Turns out it's not technically a sea, it's actually a lake, so is the dead sea.... but technicalities aside, it was beautiful. We drove up the whole west coast of the sea(err...lake), through Tiberias and onwards to the north.
We stopped at a place called Hula Valley where we walked through a nature reserve and saw Papyrus, nutrias, pelicans, and donkeys we mistook for water buffalo.... to our credit, they were really really far away... Hula Valley is a stopping point for many migrating birds, as well as home to many birds of prey and cranes. It was gorgeous.
We ended the day with another short hike in the Biriya Forest. it was so beautiful there, the air smelled fresh and full of pine and we could see for miles.
This forest was part of the battleground for the 2006 war and many areas were damaged during the fighting. We came upon an area that's been filled with little seedling trees to help this part of the forest regrow.
Mount Hermon
On our drive home we passed a sign for Megiddo, which I though was a funny name, but Raz told me that the scriptures say Armageddon will start there, which made it less fun.
The day was perfect. I wish we had more time to explore the north, but I'm returning to the states next week so it seems I'll just have to wait.
